Old Key West is the original DVC resort, opened in 1991, and it shows in the best possible way. The studios and villas here are among the largest in the entire DVC system; the 1-bedroom at OKW is notably more spacious than the equivalent at most other resorts. The theming is relaxed Florida Keys with low buildings, winding waterways, and a laid-back atmosphere. It's a bus ride to all parks but has its own restaurants, marina, and a quiet community feel. The 2042 deed (original) and 2057 deed (extended) trade simultaneously on the resale market, making it one of the most complex buying decisions in DVC. Buyers choose OKW for the room size, the lowest-cost large-room contracts in the system, and the relaxed, non-theme-park atmosphere.
